Interim dean named for Joplin medical school

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences has named an interim dean for its Joplin medical school, which is scheduled to open to 150 students in 2017.

Dr. John Dougherty, currently the senor associate dean for clinical affairs and graduate medical education at KCUMB, will serve in the position until a dean is found and then will return to the Kansas City campus:

"This is an important time at KCU — and in osteopathic medicine," Dougherty said in a release. "The new campus in Joplin will be uniquely positioned to have a significant impact on the need for primary care physicians to serve in rural and underserved areas in this region."
