Three hundred sixty nine signatures on remove C. J. Huff petition

Three hundred sixty-nine signatures have been obtained so far for an online petition asking the Joplin R-8 Board of Education to fire Superintendent C. J. Huff.

The petition was started shortly after Huff launched a lengthy tirade against board member Debbie Fort during the April 28 board meeting, saying she had been the worst principal in the district for the last 10 years she was there and criticizing her test scores.

Huff also slammed Fort and new board member Jennifer Martucci for texting during the meeting.

The verbal assault came on the heels of Huff's controversial Facebook postings just before the election in which he used a two-year-old personal e-mail from Martucci to make it appear as if Martucci was a snob who did not care about all children.

The R-8 Board of Education is expected to discuss Huff's behavior during a special closed session scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Administration Building.

The special meeting at 5:00 is open to the public. I believe the closed session meeting will follow that.

What is the law concerning spanking of superintendents? Does it have to be done in closed session, or can the public observe? I think a paddling is called for in this situation, but that would be for the Board to decide.
