Space heaters galore as Eastmorland Elementary deals with heating problems

Joplin High School is not the only building in the R-8 School District that has been facing heating problems.

Parents have told the Turner Report that several classrooms have been without heat for the past couple of days at Eastmorland Elementary.

Temperatures in the rooms have been under 55 degrees, the parents said, and space heaters were placed in several.

Today, a kindergarten class of 31 students was moved into the library. More space heaters were added today, but it appears school officials are awaiting warmer temperatures outside to take care of the problem.

And there's sewage in Columbia. We don't need any more fancy new schools. We need to take care of what we have. This is inexcusable. The kids are cold and walk in the snow. I bet Huff and his staff were nice and warm and had dry feet. What a bunch of twisted crooks.

Space heaters and kindergartners in a room full of books. That sounds like a winning combination. Way to go, R8!

My child is one of the Kindergartners that had to be in the library. The school hasn't notified us of anything. This is the first I'm hearing of it. My son didn't think there was anything strange about it and he had a good day. I just think it's a shame that this is occurring without any parental notification. I hope it gets corrected soon.

You would think the R-8 would cancel some of Huff's upcoming speaking engagements in order to save money to correct these issues. I can't imagine the arrogant moron pays for them himself.

It is hard to fix anything when the administration has already spent 40% of the capital budget for the next 5 years already to pay for the overages at the high school construction. This leaves only 60% of the annual budget for any new issues.

Not a problem. Fire (I mean eliminate the positions of) the carpenters, plumbers, hvac, and electricians. You will save about $500,000 per year.

Then, you will pay out about $1,250,000 per year on contracted (often top dollar emergency) pay. Big deal, the taxpayers will pass another bond, and we can get the Green Building grant to make up the difference.

Beyond the issue of heat/no heat, is ANYONE asking why there are THIRTY ONE kindergarteners in a class?!
Old saying: Joplin R8; stack 'em deep, teach 'em cheap.

Whoa hold on there 5:21 pm, we only "teach 'em cheap" because we need the savings for more important investments. If it were up to selfish parents and demanding taxpayers we would not have ribbons, banners, and super nifty tee shirts.

No need to apologize, I'm sure you see the error in your thinking now.

For CJ!
