Insurance giant sponsored C. J. Huff Dallas speaking engagement

Whether it was done through the Washington Speakers Bureau isn't clear, but the arranging of C. J. Huff as keynote speaker for the Game Changer Day of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas Wednesday, was done by CRC/Crump, according to the IIA website. (The accompanying photo, by the IIA shows Huff giving the keynote speech.)

CRC/Crump will sponsor our keynote speaker, Dr. C.J. Huff, the superintendent of Joplin, Missouri public schools, who fearlessly led his community through the aftermath of one of the deadliest natural disasters in the United States. Dr. Huff’s speech on “Leadership in Action” will share how he and his organization led the city to persevere in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The national CRC/Crump company is one of the four largest insurance companies in the United States.

As noted in earlier Turner Report posts, Huff gave the keynote speech during an awards luncheon and later had drinks on the veranda (including a breathtaking view) with those who paid $2,500 to $7,500 for the privilege. As might be expected, the topic of Huff's keynote speech, according to the IAA Facebook page, was "The Joplin Story," with Huff relating how his administrative abilities, his Bright Futures, and his "There will be school" helping rescue the city of Joplin in the days after the May 22, 2011, tornado.

The next couple of weeks will be busy ones for Huff.

At the October 21 Joplin R-8 Board of Education meeting, the board approved a $240 expense to pay for a table at the Joplin Regional Business Journal's Men of Distinction award where Huff will be honored a week from today as a "Regional Man of Distinction."

Five days later, Huff will serve as the keynote speaker of the annual 2014 Joint Conference of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, the Saskatchewan Association of School Business Officials, and the League of Educational Administrators, Directors, and Superintendents of Saskatchewan. Huff will speak from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at the Saskatoon TCU Place.

That will mark the second speech Huff has made in Canada over the past two months and the 14th weekday that Huff has been gone delivering speeches on the Joplin Tornado story or making appearances on behalf of Bright Futures USA, an organization which supposedly is a separate entity from Bright Futures Joplin and is not connected with the Joplin R-8 School District.

Will someone please explain, Anson, Kelli, anyone, what is remotely heroic about CJ Huff. In Moore OK, a teacher laid her body across children to protect them frm an EF5. Right here in Joplin, Dr. Gilbreth stood before a student who shot him; had the gun not misfired. Why is he not being paraded around the continent tellng his tale? CJ, who did not lose a shingle off his mansion, sufferd not one scratch, whose entire family was just fine, says "school will start on time."

How is this heroic? It is obvious, by JHS, that his mere proclamation does not make construction move faster, only shoddy.

So please spin masters, enlighten those of us who still don't get it. Why is he a hero? Why?
