Greentown Joplin GM to speak to Southwest Missouri Democrats

(From Southwest Missouri Democrats)

Southwest Missouri Democrats will host their Monthly Breakfast on Saturday, November 22nd, at 9:30 a.m. The breakfast will be served in the meeting room of the Laborers Local 319 at 2001 Empire, Joplin, MO 64804, where the Southwest Missouri Democrats offices are located. The meal will be potluck. Guests are asked to bring a breakfast casserole, fruit or baked good.

We are pleased to welcome Catherine Hart, General Manager of GreenTown Joplin as our guest speaker.

For over 7 years, Catherine Hart has assisted communities that have been hit by disaster with an eye toward building energy efficient, durable, and sustainable new homes and businesses. In the aftermath of the 2007 tornado that brought on the near-total devastation of the community of Greensburg, Kansas, she and Daniel Wallach established a nonprofit organization, Greensburg GreenTown, to help the town realize their dream of building back as a model “green” community. Greensburg has made a successful comeback and is a showcase of remarkably efficient buildings and residences.

Given the green light by local officials, GreenTown staff started working in Joplin in August of 2011, and Catherine relocated here the following spring to provide a full-time presence. GreenTown Joplin has worked with homeowners and business people to develop sustainable strategies for local rebuilding projects.

Catherine graduated in 1979 with a master’s degree in social work from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Over the years she has worked as a nonprofit organization manager, counselor, educator, writer, and hospice social worker. She recently launched a new business, Cate Hart Resources, and offers classes, retreats, and one-on-one meetings for people exploring how to live more purposefully and deeply.
