"Fearless" C. J. Huff to speak to Dallas insurance agents Wednesday

C. J. Huff's crack administrative team will be on its own again Wednesday when  the Joplin R-8 superintendent will be at the Irving, Texas, Convention Center, delivering the keynote address at the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas conference.

The importance of Huff's role in rescuing the city of Joplin following the May 22, 2011, tornado, will be the focus of his speech, according to the event's literature.

In it, it describes Huff "who fearlessly led his community through the aftermath of one of the deadliest natural disasters in the United States. Dr. Huff's speech on "Leadership in Action" will share how he and his organization led the city to persevere in the aftermath of the tragedy. His unique message will remind us of the important role our industry serves for our customres on a daily basis."

Huff's speech, according ot the literature will be during the 12 noon awards luncheon.

The Texas junket, which appears to be another one arranged through either the Washington Speakers Bureau or one of the similar organizations which list Huff as an available speaker at prices ranging from $2,500 to $10,000, marks the beginning of a busy month for the Joplin hero.

He will serve as keynote speaker of the annual 2014 Joint Conference of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, the Saskatchewan Association of School Business Officials, and the League of Educational Administrators, Directors, and Supeintendents of Saskatchewan, with his speech scheduled for 12:45 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at the Saskatoon TCU Place.

Oh thank you Doctor Huff. Our family was not going to perservere. Then you found us all huddled in the fetal position awaiting the sweet release of death. But No! You would not allow us to indulge in the idle acceptance of our fate. You said, we will rebuild. The Red Sea parted and we, your ignorant, helpless flock followed you into the promise land. Your leadership is an inspiration to the indolent. Thanks to you, we reed reel guud. We love you Dr. CJ. You are the 400 mph wind beneath our wings.

Uh, Randy, you forgot an entry on CJ's schedule. On the eighth day, he rested.

Could someone please tell me what "grief stage" we are currently in, I've lost track.

Different people are at different stages. Most of us have rounded acceptance. CJ is still in denial and a stage he invented for himself, profit.

Some suffered deeply and do well to cope. Others have become reoccupied with business of life. Many scars are for life....but in order to milk the poppy one must perpetuate the myth rather than acknowledged the reality and move on.

I can just picture CJ in his little cardigan sweater, sitting slightly askew, staring reassuringly into a full length mirror: " I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And, dawg gone it. people like me."

My daughter is a kindergartner at Joplin. We were mailed a picture of her taken with CJ Huff at the start of the school year. I knew who he was, but I asked her anyways.
"Dad, that's the janitor!"
My daughter couldn't be more wrong, Ol' CJ would never be able to cut the mustard at being a janitor.
