Springfield school put on lockdown, woman arrested with knife

A woman was arrested with a knife at Pittman Elementary Springfield today. Authorities initially believed she had a gun. The report is from KOLR News:

According to Lt. Todd Revell with the Springfield Police Department, the woman had a disagreement with the Pittman principal Friday afternoon. The woman's 8-year-old daughter was leaving the school in a guardian's car. The woman got upset and tried to take her daughter from the car. She does not have custody of her child.

"During the disturbance, she withdrew what appeared to be a handgun from one pocket," says Lt. Revell. "And she held it in her hand during the disturbance and walked off shortly after."

The school principal was outside helping with dismissal pick-ups and went to see what the confrontation was about. According to police, the principal agreed the woman could not take the child and the woman got angry. Police say that's when she pulled a knife out of a holster and stormed off.

"The caretaker left with the child and the disturbance occurred after that," says Lt. Revell. "We were able to locate her and the weapon was a knife, that appeared to be a handgun, in a holster."
