Sachetta: We will not start school in an unsafe building

(From Joplin Schools)

Dear Staff, Parents and Students:

I’m sure you are as anxious as I am to know the final decision on the Aug. 25 opening date of the NEW Joplin High school and Franklin Technology Center.

Here’s what we can tell you – we are very close! Our goal is still to hit our target date. However, we recognize that any change in the weather or our move could cause us to miss that target.

If that happens, our plan is to start school at Joplin High School/Franklin Technology Center on Tuesday, Sept. 2. We will not make a decision regarding the start date until later this week. There are just too many "wheels in motion" to decide any sooner. All other schools in the district will start school on Aug. 25 regardless of the decision made on the start date for the high school.

One thing is for sure – we will not start school in a building that is not safe for our students.

Thank you for your patience during this exciting and anxious time. I know this hasn’t been an easy time but know that the end of this journey is in sight!

Watch our website for updates throughout this week.

Mission Accomplished? Maybe not yet.

How is the football team allowed to play if they are not currently in school and attending classes? Will these several delays cause any issues with days off, graduation dates etc...... ????? Come on Huff speak up and tell the truth for once in your Joplin career.

I haven't seen anyone comment on the effect this has for students from other districts enrolled in the Franklin Tech program. Students in Carl Junction are sitting around half a day, basically waiting. Does this also extend their school year - as their other classes are in full swing.

And how does 2.5 days make up for 5? I guess the same way 10 min a day replaces 10 days...

The record setting ribbon will make all this seem like a bad dream. It really will, won't it?

Why can't they attend a couple of Saturdays or half Saturdays to make up some of the difference ? School always gets out Friday before Christmas, families make plans accordingly ! Will Sachetta, Huff and Sharp re imburse travel plans ?

Everyone say Private School ?
